TO BE AN AMERICAN

Christopher “Rocket” Descartes is a Caribbean American Artist. Brooklyn born, currently residing in Los Angeles where he has been producing a wide array of works with focus on mixed media sculptures, painting and digital works. Rocket creates using familiar and iconic American symbols and contemporary elements creating a dialogue that illuminates his subject matter, causing the viewers to contemplate perspective and context. In these assemblages, Rocket shares his perspective of American culture through his sculpture, painting, and story....

This series, “To Be An American” consists of sculptural flags and artifacts. His work represents the subtleties and nuances that fade in the background of our everyday lives, and how and what messages and importance we place on what’s valued most in our American society. Rocket, implores you to look through the eyes of your neighbors, and to rethink the things that separate us, as well as what unites us.
